Evotec Launches J.TRAIN to Decentralize Biologics Manufacturing

Biopharmaceutical companies can now install turnkey continuous manufacturing suites directly into their own facilities, bypassing the lengthy construction cycles of traditional plants. Evotec’s new J.TRAIN offering integrates modular cleanrooms with proprietary automation, promising to slash deployment timelines to 18 months while boosting productivity tenfold over standard fed-batch methods.

The system, unveiled at the INTERPHEX conference in New York, allows firms to embed advanced manufacturing capabilities without the capital burden of building large-scale infrastructure. By combining prefabricated cleanrooms with digital validation and pre-configured automation scripts, the platform enables a shift toward decentralized production. According to Linda Zuckerman, EVP Global Head of Just – Evotec Biologics, the model provides companies with granular, tunable control over both clinical and commercial material supplies.

Technological gains center on space and volume efficiency. The J.TRAIN architecture can generate more than 500 kilograms of drug substance within a footprint of less than 10,000 square feet. This high-density output allows for rapid product transitions and reduced operational downtime. The framework was initially validated through a December 2025 deal with Sandoz, which served as a blueprint for the current licensing expansion. By shifting from a centralized service model to a partner-enablement approach, Evotec aims to address the industry’s urgent demand for flexible, high-capacity biologics production.
