The Messerschmitt 109 E1, identified by W.NR 3579, stands as an exceptionally rare artifact of aerial warfare. With only two or three original German-built ME 109s believed to exist today, this unit carries a storied combat record, including service under ace pilot Hans-Joachim Marseille and documented engagements over England and the Russian front. Its current restoration features a refurbished original Daimler-Benz engine, positioning the fighter to return to flight-ready status—a distinction that separates it from static museum displays.
Alongside the ME 109, the sale includes the 'Red 11' Buchon, a centerpiece of the 1968 film Battle of Britain that was piloted by Luftwaffe ace Adolf Galland during production. Icon Global is managing the bid submission process for these assets, which are available for purchase either as a combined set or in separate transactions. Bernard Uechtritz of Icon Global noted that the firm’s private client division was specifically formalized to handle such unique historical assets, bridging the gap between high-end real estate services and the specialized market for rare military aviation relics.
