National League of Cities and America's Newspapers launch Sign ON 250

As the United States approaches its 250th anniversary, the National League of Cities and America's Newspapers have launched a year-long initiative inviting citizens to digitally sign the Declaration of Independence. The campaign, which runs through July 4, 2027, aims to unify Americans around the founding principles of liberty and equality.

The project invites individuals across classrooms, workplaces, and military bases to visit signon250.org to affirm their commitment to the nation's core values. NLC President Kevin Kramer described the initiative as a unique opportunity for citizens to embrace their shared heritage, while America's Newspapers CEO Dean Ridings emphasized that the principles of the Declaration remain timeless despite the evolution of the modern world.

Support for the project appears robust, according to a recent survey of 1,500 American adults conducted by Sachs Media. The data indicates that 92% of respondents view the principles of the Declaration as important, with 76% expressing a willingness to add their names to the document. Notably, this sentiment transcends traditional partisan divides, with 98% of Republicans and 93% of Democrats expressing agreement on the significance of these founding ideals.

To bolster public engagement, country music artist Billy Dean has composed a commemorative ballad for the campaign. Strategic partners, including the Bob Graham Center for Public Service and the James Madison Institute, are also supporting the effort to foster civic participation. By encouraging citizens to act on the belief that democracy requires active involvement, organizers hope to provide a platform for Americans to look past contemporary political friction and focus on the foundational promises that created the nation.
