Solstice Century Ride Raises $122,000 for Local Charities

Fifty-seven cyclists pedaled 100 miles through the Whalon Lake Forest Preserve this summer, pushing their physical limits to generate nearly $122,000 for charity. The third annual Solstice Century Ride, held on the longest day of the year, saw 39 riders complete the full century distance to benefit eight non-profit organizations.

Founded by Naperville cyclist and IntentGen Financial Partners advisor Zac Larson, the event has consistently exceeded its fundraising targets since its inception. This year’s proceeds will support groups focused on mental health, youth services, and housing, including local fixtures like DuPagePads and Hesed House. While the physical challenge of the 100-mile course serves as the event's core, the impact is measured by the tangible aid provided to neighbors in need.

Chad Pedigo, Chief Development Officer at DuPagePads, completed the grueling nine-hour ride, noting that the physical exhaustion was secondary to the goal of securing resources for the 321 individuals currently seeking shelter through his organization. Mechanical support for the participants was managed by the Naperville-based Hub House, while sponsors including Medical Risk Services ensured that the entirety of the funds raised will be distributed directly to the eight designated charities, which also include SamaraCare, Grow Wellness Foundation, Max's Mission, 4:13, Little Friends, and 16 Days.
