The expansion arrives under the "Putting Georgia's Patients First Act," signed by Governor Brian Kemp on May 12, 2026. The legislation removes previous end-stage restrictions for conditions like cancer and Parkinson’s disease, while adding lupus, HIV, and inflammatory bowel disease to the list of qualifying medical conditions. Patients aged 21 and older now have legal access to a wider variety of consumption methods, including whole flower and vape products, which were previously unavailable in the state.
Trulieve CEO Kim Rivers noted that the company is leveraging recent federal Schedule III rescheduling to integrate medical cannabis into the traditional healthcare landscape. Beyond its own retail locations, the company has begun supplying products to over a dozen independent pharmacies across Georgia. Parth Patel, owner of Bonaire Pharmacy, stated that this integration allows pharmacists to provide cannabis as a natural extension of standard patient care in a familiar neighborhood setting. Trulieve plans to continue scaling its pharmacy distribution network throughout the summer months.
