ARTAN Bio Secures $1 Million Seed Funding for tRNA Longevity Platform

Following the acquisition of his previous venture CrossBridge Bio by Eli Lilly, co-founder Michael Torres has led a $1 million seed round for St. Petersburg-based ARTAN Bio. The capital will fuel the development of a programmable codon suppression platform aimed at correcting protein translation errors linked to aging and genetic diseases.

The company is transitioning its engineered suppressor tRNA system from preclinical research toward human trials. The platform specifically targets nonsense mutations—genetic errors that trigger premature stop signals during protein synthesis—to restore full-length functional proteins. This funding will cover essential regulatory preparations, manufacturing scale-up, and IND-enabling studies.

Leadership shifts accompany the financing, with Brian Bodemann joining as Chief Executive Officer to manage commercial strategy and partnership development. Co-founder Anthony Schwartz, Ph.D., will move into the role of Chief Operating Officer to oversee the technical execution of the platform’s translational roadmap. Headquartered at ARK Invest’s spARK Labs, ARTAN Bio utilizes an innovative governance model through the $VITARNA token, which allows stakeholders to participate in IP-NFT decision-making alongside VitaDAO.
