The Maryland Makerspace Initiative Program provides grants of up to $100,000 to organizations establishing or enhancing hubs for innovation. By lowering the barrier to entry for high-tech equipment and fabrication tools, these spaces serve as critical infrastructure for workforce development. TEDCO President Tammi Thomas noted that the program is designed to move ideas from conceptual stages into viable businesses by offering the necessary resources and collaborative environments.

This year’s recipients include a diverse range of entities, such as the Baltimore Underground Science Space, the College of Southern Maryland Foundation, the Digital Harbor Foundation, and the St. Mary's County Library. According to Justin Ferguson, TEDCO’s innovation manager for venture development, the high volume of competitive applications highlights a growing statewide demand for accessible technology centers. The funded projects span multiple counties, including Baltimore City, Frederick, Charles, Wicomico, Prince George's, Howard, Carroll, St. Mary's, Montgomery, Anne Arundel, and Kent.
