The partnership aims to scale the reach of a program that has already distributed over 100,000 patches worldwide. While National Patch Day is marked by a specific calendar event, the project operates as a 365-day initiative, providing free patches to hospitals, schools, and families to serve as tangible reminders of resilience and community support. Brian Burkhardt, Executive Director and Co-Founder of the Oliver Patch Project, emphasized that the backing from United Therapeutics will allow the organization to extend its footprint, ensuring that more children facing adversity receive messages of hope. Often likened to a year-round version of Valentine’s Day, the project uses these small tokens to spark moments of connection for those navigating complex medical journeys. By aligning with a public benefit corporation focused on pulmonary hypertension and rare disease research, the project strengthens its infrastructure to support children who are often isolated by their health conditions.
