Synera Funds Launches Collaborative ETF Platform

Synera Funds officially entered the market today, debuting a collaborative platform that merges Japanese equity research, systematic managed futures, and specialized ETF structuring. The launch introduces the Synera Funds Japan Active+ ETF (SMTJ), marking a strategic partnership between Sumitomo Mitsui Trust Asset Management, Millburn Ridgefield, and Twin Oak ETF Company.

The platform operates on the premise that institutional-grade investment disciplines produce superior results when integrated within an ETF structure. By combining Sumitomo Mitsui Trust's fundamental research on Japanese markets with Millburn’s decades of quantitative expertise, the collaboration aims to provide retail and institutional investors access to strategies that are typically difficult to replicate as standalone products. Twin Oak provides the operational backbone, focusing on the infrastructure required to manage these complex, multi-disciplinary funds.

A central pillar of the Synera model is the integration of Section 351 ETF exchange capabilities. Unlike many platforms that treat such exchanges as secondary services, Synera positions them as a core offering for investors looking to contribute appreciated securities. To facilitate this, the firm directs participants to ExchangiFi, a dedicated resource for evaluating and executing these specific tax-efficient transfers. By formalizing this process, the partners intend to offer the same level of transparency to the exchange process as they do to their underlying investment strategies.
