Tropical Smoothie Cafe Replaces Hot Dogs with Popsicles for July 4th

Americans typically consume 150 million hot dogs every Fourth of July, but Tropical Smoothie Cafe is disrupting the tradition. The brand is launching the "Smoothie Dog," a hot-dog-shaped popsicle, and hosting an inaugural eating contest featuring players from the Banana Ball team, the Loco Beach Coconuts.

The treat, modeled after the company’s Bahama Mama smoothie, replaces savory meat with a frozen tropical base. To mimic the classic stadium aesthetic, the popsicles are garnished with strawberry syrup as "ketchup," pineapple syrup as "mustard," and muddled kiwi to serve as "relish." The launch occurs at VyStar Ballpark in Jacksonville, Florida, during pre-game festivities leading up to the holiday.

On July 2, players from the Loco Beach Coconuts will face off against the Indianapolis Clowns in a competition to determine who can consume the most Smoothie Dogs. The winner earns the title of champion and a year of free smoothies. Deborah von Kutzleben, chief marketing officer at Tropical Smoothie Cafe, noted that the partnership aligns with the high-energy, entertainment-focused spirit of Banana Ball. Beyond the contest, the brand is rolling out a limited-time Loco Beach Colada smoothie and offering exclusive in-game giveaways throughout the season.
