PowerBank Activates New York Community Solar Site

A 7.01-megawatt solar facility in upstate New York has officially entered commercial operation, marking the second milestone in a broader three-project portfolio. Developed by Toronto-based PowerBank Corporation, the site repurposes industrial brownfield land to provide clean energy credits for local residential subscribers.

The project, known as SB-14, functions as a community solar site under the NYSERDA NY-Sun Program. It is designed to generate enough electricity to power approximately 875 homes annually. The development is part of a larger US$41 million engineering, procurement, and construction agreement between PowerBank and Honeywell, which covers a total of 21 megawatts of capacity across three separate sites. Following a corporate spinoff on June 29, the asset now falls under the ownership of Honeywell Aerospace Inc.

Andrew van Doorn, President and COO of PowerBank, noted that the site’s construction on regulated industrial land required significant precision. The company has retained long-term operations and maintenance responsibilities for the facility. This latest activation brings PowerBank’s total operational capacity within this specific portfolio to 14.02 megawatts, with one final project currently moving toward completion.
