The project centers on the Alto Corcovado area, where the original 2003 infrastructure is being replaced to ensure long-term reliability. The completed work on the three Gen2 elevators included replacing machinery and control systems, alongside updated fixtures and signage. The next phase, commissioned by the concessionaire Trem do Corcovado under a plan managed by the Chico Mendes Institute for Biodiversity Conservation, will see the addition of four outdoor-rated escalators and two custom inclined elevators. These specific additions aim to remove barriers for passengers who previously struggled to navigate the monument's stairs and existing escalator paths. According to Álvaro Netto, Managing Director of Otis Brazil, the modernization reflects a commitment to expanding site access while maintaining the systems that move millions of annual visitors through the Tijuca National Park.
