Lung Cancer Market Set for 6.6% Growth as Targeted Therapies Proliferate

The market for non-small cell lung cancer treatments is projected to reach robust expansion through 2036, fueled by a surge in precision medicine and an increasingly crowded pipeline of targeted therapies. As incidence rates climb, pharmaceutical giants are shifting focus toward next-generation combinations to overcome resistance to current standards.

In 2025, the market value for non-small cell lung cancer across seven major global regions hit USD 33 billion. Growth is underpinned by a transition from conventional systemic options toward biomarker-driven strategies. While established inhibitors like Tagrisso maintain a dominant position in EGFR-mutated cases, newer entrants are aggressively vying for share in the KRAS and ALK-mutated segments. The US market alone saw EGFR-mutated NSCLC reach USD 3.8 billion and ALK-mutated treatments hit USD 1.28 billion in 2025.

Clinical trial activity remains high, with candidates such as BMS-986504, Neladalkib, and PF-08046054 leading a wave of innovation intended to address the limitations of existing PD-1/PD-L1 inhibitors. Despite the success of immunotherapies, acquired resistance remains a primary obstacle, forcing researchers to explore novel combination regimens. With approximately 539,000 incident cases recorded across the 7MM in 2025, the focus is shifting toward early-stage interventions and improving survival outcomes for patients who have exhausted traditional lines of therapy.
