The initiative outlines more than 20 phased projects designed to bolster research capabilities, student living, and workforce readiness. President J. W. Crawford III described the blueprint as a necessary evolution to ensure physical development matches the university’s long-term institutional mission. By integrating new academic hubs with community-focused spaces, the plan seeks to balance historical preservation with modern requirements.
Work is already underway on three major academic and research facilities, including the Catalyst for Urban Transformation, the Nabrit Science Center, and a new Health and Wellness Center. Backed by $95 million in state funding, these buildings are scheduled to open in conjunction with the university’s centennial celebration. Simultaneously, the university is coordinating with the Texas Facilities Commission on the planning of a new Thurgood Marshall Law Center, utilizing a $10 million legislative allocation to replace the existing aging infrastructure. This roadmap serves as a flexible guide, allowing the school to adapt to shifting enrollment demands and regional economic growth in Houston.
