Nicklaus Children's Health System Migrates to Epic EHR Platform

More than 5,000 clinicians and staff at Nicklaus Children's Health System are beginning a comprehensive transition to the Epic electronic health record platform. The move, which consolidates fragmented legacy systems across three hospital campuses and dozens of outpatient clinics in South Florida, is scheduled for completion by summer 2027.

The integration aims to streamline clinical workflows by unifying patient data into a single, accessible medical record. By adopting Epic, the health system intends to improve interoperability with external providers, allowing for a more seamless exchange of health information when patients move between different medical facilities. Dr. Marcos Mestre, the system's chief clinical officer, noted that the platform will provide physicians with a holistic view of a child's medical history, regardless of where previous care was delivered.

Beyond data consolidation, the shift introduces the MyChart portal to the health system’s patient population. This tool is designed to provide families with centralized access to their children's records, appointment scheduling, and direct communication channels with care teams. Cross-functional teams are currently managing the migration process to ensure continuity of care across all pediatric specialties while phasing out existing legacy software over the coming year.
