Dayton Children’s Hospital integrates ophthalmology into imaging platform

Dayton Children’s Hospital has transitioned its ophthalmology imaging to the Sectra enterprise platform, allowing clinicians to view ocular scans alongside radiology records. This integration aims to streamline complex pediatric care by consolidating fragmented data from multiple camera systems into a single, accessible patient history.

Before this upgrade, ophthalmology departments frequently struggled with images stored across disparate systems or locked within specific camera hardware. By incorporating the ophthalmology module into its existing Sectra One deployment, the hospital now enables side-by-side analysis of different imaging modalities. Dr. Abiodun Omoloja, Chief Medical Information Officer at the hospital, noted that the ability to view oncology and ophthalmology findings in one session without switching software significantly improves decision-making for pediatric patients.

The implementation follows a two-and-a-half-year contract and handles an estimated annual volume of 2,000 ophthalmology exams. Beyond clinical benefits, the shift to a unified system reduces administrative overhead for the hospital’s IT department. Isaac Zaworski, President of Sectra Inc., described the move as a strategic expansion of the hospital’s imaging foundation, noting that as the facility adds specialties, the shared data environment reinforces the quality of care provided to children across western Ohio.
