MSA Safety Acquires Autronica from Sentinel for $555 Million

A $555 million deal has reshaped the safety technology landscape, as Sentinel Capital Partners offloads its Norwegian fire and gas detection specialist, Autronica, to Pittsburgh-based MSA Safety. The move marks the latest exit for Sentinel, which has systematically dismantled its Spectrum Safety Solutions platform over the past several months.

Autronica, based in Trondheim, Norway, supplies critical fire and gas detection systems for the maritime, energy, and infrastructure sectors. Sentinel acquired the company from Carrier Global in 2024, using it to anchor the Spectrum Safety Solutions platform. During its two-year tenure, Sentinel focused on scaling Autronica’s product portfolio and strengthening its global commercial reach.

This divestiture follows Sentinel's March 2026 agreement to sell Marioff, another unit under the Spectrum umbrella, to Inflexion. By shedding these assets, Sentinel is narrowing its focus toward the U.S.-based detection businesses Det-Tronics and Fireye. For MSA Safety, the acquisition integrates a specialized player with deep regulatory expertise in harsh-environment safety technology into its existing global operations. Financial advisory for the transaction was provided by Citi and J.P. Morgan, with legal counsel from Kirkland & Ellis.
