TibaRay Begins Manufacturing New Class of Radiotherapy Systems

Patients may soon receive cancer treatment while sitting upright as TibaRay moves its Galactica technology into production. The Silicon Valley firm, born from Stanford University research, is now manufacturing its first systems, aiming to replace aging linear accelerators with more precise and compact equipment.

The Galactica system departs from traditional radiotherapy, which typically requires patients to lie down during long, complex procedures. By integrating with Leo Cancer Care’s upright platform, the technology allows for a more comfortable experience while sharpening clinical precision. CEO Thinh Tran described the move into manufacturing as a transition from years of engineering innovation to a tool ready for real-world clinical application.

This platform represents a fundamental shift in medical linear accelerators, a field that has seen little architectural change in seven decades. Beyond its size and efficiency, the system serves as a technical foundation for FLASH radiotherapy—an emerging method that delivers radiation in fractions of a second to destroy tumors while sparing surrounding healthy tissue. The first units are slated for installation at the Mayo Clinic later this year, marking a critical test for the company’s mission to modernize standard oncology care.
