AI Engines Rank Founders: Fame Does Not Equal Reputation

The most famous face in artificial intelligence currently holds the lowest reputation score among his peers, according to a new audit from 5W AI Communications. The inaugural Reputation Index reveals a stark disconnect between public celebrity and how generative engines like ChatGPT and Gemini describe the industry’s primary architects.

The report evaluated Sam Altman of OpenAI, Dario Amodei of Anthropic, and Demis Hassabis of Google DeepMind across five major AI platforms using over 600 data points. Demis Hassabis secured the top spot with a score of 86, characterized by the engines primarily as a scientist. Dario Amodei followed with 82, with his reputation tied closely to his public stance on AI safety. Sam Altman trailed significantly at 64, often framed by the models as a visionary whose public narrative is frequently complicated by trust-related qualifiers.

The research suggests that reputation in the age of generative search is not a byproduct of media volume, but of source control. High scorers such as Hassabis and Amodei benefit from consistent, credentialed data—peer-reviewed research and long-form essays—that AI models prioritize. Conversely, Altman’s score suffers from an reliance on event-driven news cycles that remain outside his direct influence. According to 5W chairman Ronn Torossian, the findings indicate that AI has already codified digital reputations for major industry leaders, regardless of whether those individuals have audited the results themselves.
