The ruling clears Ford, Stellantis, Renault, Nissan, and Mercedes-Benz of the primary charges that their diesel vehicles utilized prohibited software to cheat regulatory testing. While the court dismissed most claims, Mercedes-Benz faces a partial complication; the judge found a specific software function in one sampled vehicle was noncompliant before a subsequent update. The company maintains that its technologies remain technically and legally sound, though it is considering an appeal regarding that narrow finding.
Representatives for Renault and Nissan welcomed the decision, reiterating that their engineering processes have consistently met all applicable regulatory standards. Ford and Stellantis have remained silent on the outcome. Despite the manufacturers' success in defending their broader design practices, the litigation is far from finished. A follow-up trial is scheduled for October to address any remaining breaches and determine potential damages or legal remedies for the claimants.
