Nursing professional designs new bed to reduce patient injury risks

Drawing from her clinical experience in Childersburg, Alabama, a nurse has developed the Assist Bed to replace traditional bedpans and cumbersome briefs. The device aims to eliminate the need for patients to leave their beds, targeting a significant reduction in skin breakdown and physical strain for healthcare workers.

The patent-pending invention serves as an integrated solution for patient hygiene, prioritizing the prevention of coccyx-related bedsores. By automating aspects of patient care that typically require manual lifting, the design addresses a recurring challenge in nursing: the physical toll of patient transfers and the associated risk of injury to staff. The system is engineered to function within diverse environments, ranging from acute care medical facilities to long-term nursing homes and private home healthcare settings.

Currently managed by the Birmingham office of InventHelp, the technology is available for licensing or acquisition by medical equipment manufacturers. Interested parties can reach the firm at 100 Beecham Drive, Pittsburgh, or via telephone at (412) 288-1300, referencing project 25-BTK-415.
