The workers, represented by the Massachusetts Nurses Association, have spent over a year negotiating for enforceable productivity standards and competitive wages. These clinicians manage complex hospital-level care in residential settings, ranging from IV medication administration to chronic disease management. They contend that the lack of clear caseload limits contributes to staff burnout and hampers the retention of essential medical personnel.
Joining the home care staff at the 2 p.m. event are nurses from Brigham and Women’s Hospital, who recently returned to their duties after their own period of industrial action. Although those nurses are back in clinical settings, both groups remain deadlocked in contract talks with the health system. Participants plan to use the demonstration to pressure Mass General Brigham to prioritize investments in frontline caregivers before the strike officially concludes at 7:59 a.m. Wednesday.
