iHire Debuts Industry-Specific Freelance Marketplace

Seventy-three percent of job seekers currently crave the autonomy of contract work, prompting Frederick-based iHire to launch a specialized marketplace. By shunning the global gig-economy model in favor of vetted, U.S.-based professionals, the company aims to bridge the gap between niche employers and high-impact independent talent.

The platform distinguishes itself from broad-market competitors by focusing on industry-aligned expertise rather than sheer volume. Employers can now bypass long-term hiring commitments for project-specific needs, utilizing built-in tools to review portfolios, references, and project histories before extending an offer. For the workforce, the shift addresses a growing demand for flexibility, a trend underscored by iHire’s recent research report, The Freelance Revolution. Data suggests that 61% of surveyed candidates find freelancing appealing, with over half of active freelancers anticipating an increase in project-based assignments throughout 2026.

Steve Flook, President and CEO of iHire, emphasized that the move reflects a permanent evolution in labor preferences. While the company maintains its infrastructure for full-time recruitment across its 57 industry-specific networks, this new marketplace provides a dedicated channel for immediate, skill-based matching. The system allows candidates to showcase verified portfolios and secure payment upon the completion of defined milestones, creating a streamlined workflow that prioritizes professional credentials over generic bidding.
