Skanska to Build SEK 1 Billion University Campus in Kristianstad

A SEK 1 billion contract has been awarded to Skanska by Boulevardfastigheter AB to construct a new city campus for Kristianstad University. The project, designed to integrate academic facilities into the urban core, will house 13,000 students and 550 staff members upon its scheduled completion in June 2029.

The development spans 25,000 square meters and aims to revitalize the city center by boosting local economic activity. To accommodate the new structure, Skanska demolished unused portions of the adjacent Galleria Boulevard, prioritizing the salvage of materials over standard disposal methods. This circular approach includes the recycling of doors, glass partitions, and facade panels to meet sustainability targets set by a unique local climate agreement involving the municipality, the university, and the developers.

A notable feature of this project is the large-scale reclamation of structural elements. Skanska is repurposing 10,000 square meters of concrete floor slabs for secondary construction projects, marking one of the most significant concrete reuse initiatives ever undertaken in Sweden. With the groundwork laid, actual construction is slated to begin in early August 2026, transforming the site into a modern hub for research and higher education.
