Duke Energy Florida program offers $141 in annual bill credits

St. Petersburg homeowners and renters can collect up to $141 in annual bill credits through Duke Energy Florida’s EnergyWise Home program. The initiative requires minimal effort from participants, rewarding customers who maintain a baseline energy usage of 600 kilowatt-hours per month regardless of device activation.

The program functions by installing a free control device on specific household appliances, allowing the utility to cycle them off during peak demand periods. Participants typically see savings without altering their daily routines or habits. Water heaters, pool pumps, and heating or cooling units are eligible for enrollment, with the latter rarely experiencing actual service interruptions.

Annual credit allocations are split across four categories: $45 for cooling, $42 for water heaters, $30 for pool pumps, and $24 for heating systems. Mobile home residents remain eligible for a scaled-down package totaling $111 annually. Melissa Seixas, state president of Duke Energy Florida, described the program as a low-friction method for residents to reduce monthly expenses during the summer season. Interested customers can register via the company website or by calling 888-282-9757.
