The Mooresville site represents a significant expansion for SHD Composites, the manufacturing division Cambium acquired six months ago. Engineered for speed, the plant will handle everything from resin mixing to final testing, allowing the firm to transition from long-term development cycles to rapid-response manufacturing. This project is scheduled to begin operations later this year as part of a broader strategy to solidify Cambium’s position among the world’s top three prepreg material suppliers.

Cambium CEO Simon Waddington noted that modern defense and aerospace programs no longer operate on multi-year timelines, necessitating a shift in how supply chains function. By scaling capacity across its US, UK, and EU sites, the company intends to provide a more reliable industrial base for critical systems. SHD Composites President Brett Schneider emphasized that the investment is designed to maintain short lead times while supporting the growth of high-performance industries, ensuring that manufacturing capabilities keep pace with client innovation.
