Jamie Dimon Warns Anthropic’s Mythos AI Poses Security Risks

Comparing advanced artificial intelligence to ballistic missiles, JPMorgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon declared on Wednesday that the security risks surrounding Anthropic’s Mythos model remain a genuine concern. His comments at a Pennsylvania summit highlighted the fragile balance between leveraging high-end software for cybersecurity and preventing its potential misuse by bad actors.

The banking sector has shown significant interest in Mythos since its April release, largely due to its sophisticated ability to identify and patch system vulnerabilities faster than human analysts. However, the model's power has drawn intense scrutiny from Washington. In June, federal authorities briefly forced Anthropic to restrict access to Mythos and its sibling model, Fable 5, specifically barring foreign nationals from utilizing the systems due to national security fears.

While the government eventually lifted those restrictions after Anthropic installed additional safety guardrails, the incident underscores a broader anxiety in the capital regarding the global proliferation of high-stakes technology. Officials worry that such capabilities could be weaponized by military intelligence agencies in countries like Russia or China. Dimon emphasized that access to these tools must be strictly controlled, framing the oversight of such powerful systems as a critical task for the U.S. government.
