Industrial Development Funding Backs $1.7B Bloom Energy AI Power Project

A $1.7 billion infusion from Industrial Development Funding and Oaktree Capital Management is set to power new artificial intelligence cloud infrastructure through Bloom Energy fuel cells. The project aims to bypass traditional grid constraints, delivering direct, on-site electricity for Nebius as it scales its compute capacity to meet heavy AI workloads.

Industrial Development Funding Backs $1.7B Bloom Energy AI Power Project

This massive investment underscores a shift in how data centers secure energy. By utilizing behind-the-meter power, the firms intend to sidestep the slow-moving processes of regulated utilities, which often struggle to deliver the gigawatt-scale electricity required for modern AI infrastructure. Melius Research analysts highlight that private credit and infrastructure funds are increasingly underwriting these fuel cell and gas turbine fleets on accelerated, multi-year timelines.

For Bloom Energy, the deal serves as a blueprint for institutional capital participation in the tech sector. Aman Joshi, the company's chief commercial officer, noted that customers in this space require more than just hardware; they need a reliable, rapid path to financing and deploying power. As the lead developer, Industrial Development Funding will oversee the project, with Oaktree Capital Management participating as a minority equity partner.
