Lucky Mary Blonde Resurrects Lost 1988 Concert via AI Restoration

A forgotten cassette recording from a 1988 Carbondale performance has finally surfaced, rescued from decades of degradation by modern AI audio restoration. The long-defunct Illinois trio Lucky Mary Blonde is now preparing to share this sonic time capsule with the public, beginning with two singles released today.

The project traces back to a discovery by St. Louis drummer John Baldus, who unearthed a weathered tape of the band’s set at Gatsby’s music club. What began as a salvage mission evolved into a year-long collaboration with original bandmates Todd Baxter and Jerry Tilk. A second, miraculously recovered cassette provided the missing frequency data needed to complete the audio reconstruction, turning a deteriorating relic into a professional-grade live record.

This collection, slated for a September 4 release, features 16 tracks, including 11 songs that never saw an official studio launch. It captures the trio at the height of their college rock momentum, shortly before their abrupt 1988 dissolution. The singles "700 Candles Burn" and "I'm a Romantic" are currently available on all major streaming platforms, offering a glimpse into the Midwestern independent circuit of the late eighties.
