The facility represents a radical departure from traditional thermal-heavy refining. By drawing roughly 1 billion kilowatt-hours of green electricity annually from Tarim Oilfield’s photovoltaic arrays, the complex powers its primary ethylene compressors through an electric-driven system—a domestic first that replaces standard thermal power. This transition is bolstered by integrated carbon capture technology designed to recover low-concentration carbon dioxide from cracking furnace flue gas, feeding the captured emissions back into a closed-loop system that produces blue hydrogen and low-carbon fertilizers.
Environmental impact projections suggest the site will cut carbon emissions by 1.37 million metric tons per year, a sequestration effort equivalent to roughly 365,333 hectares of forest. Beyond sustainability, the project underscores a push for technological sovereignty. With a 99 percent localization rate, ten of its eleven production units utilize homegrown technologies, including five that have reached industrial scale for the first time. This infrastructure aims to anchor a 100-billion-yuan industrial cluster in southern Xinjiang, addressing regional deficits in high-end polyolefins and synthetic rubber while stimulating local employment in Bayingolin.
