Roy Choi to Open Second Best Friend Restaurant at Anaheim’s OCVIBE

Chef Roy Choi is bringing his acclaimed Korean barbecue concept, Best Friend, to Southern California. The restaurant will serve as the first signature dining destination in the 100-acre OCVIBE district surrounding the Honda Center, with an anticipated grand opening slated for the fall of 2027.

The expansion marks a homecoming for the James Beard Award-winning chef, who spent his childhood in Anaheim and Orange County. While the flagship location at Park MGM in Las Vegas established the brand's reputation for bold, genre-bending flavors, the Anaheim site is designed to reflect the specific cultural landscape of the region. OCVIBE officials describe the move as a cornerstone of their broader strategy to curate a collection of chef-driven eateries that move beyond traditional dining to offer immersive, community-focused experiences.

Beyond the signature restaurant, the OCVIBE development aims to anchor the area with a massive culinary program, including the 50,000-square-foot Katella Commons market hall set to open earlier in 2027. Anthony Olheiser, Senior Vice President of Hospitality at OCVIBE, noted that the selection of Choi was intentional, citing the chef's ability to tell authentic stories through food. The district, funded by the Samueli Family, is a $5 billion project intended to transform 100 acres of Anaheim into a walkable, year-round destination featuring more than 35 distinct food and beverage concepts by the time of its full completion.
