Investors reacted to the judicial intervention with immediate caution, driving shares of both media giants downward during afternoon trading. Paramount Skydance stock dipped 1.3% to $8.64, deepening its annual decline to 36% and hitting a fresh 52-week low of $8.56 earlier in the session. Warner Bros. Discovery saw a similar retreat, with shares slipping 1.4% to $26.50, marking an 8.1% loss since the start of the year.
The legal challenge, filed by a group of states last week, centers on antitrust concerns regarding the massive consolidation of media assets. By imposing a two-week freeze, the court has effectively put the transaction on life support, forcing both companies to maintain independent operations while the litigation unfolds.
