Cardinal Health spends $360 million to expand home care footprint

Cardinal Health is accelerating its home-based care strategy with the $360 million acquisition of AdaptHealth’s diabetes business and the independent supplier Strive Medical. These twin deals, announced July 20, aim to bolster the company’s reach in chronic disease management by integrating specialized supply chains for urology and diabetes patients.

The acquisitions build upon the momentum of Cardinal Health’s previous purchase of Advanced Diabetes Supply. By layering these new assets into its existing at-Home Solutions network, the company intends to increase its scale in direct-to-patient deliveries. The AdaptHealth diabetes unit currently serves more than 225,000 people annually through a mail-order model for continuous glucose monitors, while Strive Medical brings expertise in urology, wound care, and incontinence supplies to over 20,000 patients.

Jason Hollar, CEO of Cardinal Health, described the move as a natural extension of the company’s focus on therapeutic depth. Following the successful integration of previous acquisitions, the firm plans to leverage its technology-enabled distribution network to manage the new volume. Subject to regulatory approvals, the transactions are expected to be accretive to non-GAAP earnings per share within the first year of closing.
