The new Visa-backed card offers 5% cash back on Samsung purchases, alongside tiered rewards for spending via Samsung Pay. Users can manage accounts and redeem points entirely through their mobile devices, a shift Barclays executive Doug Villone describes as a response to the growing preference for digital-first financial tools over traditional wallets. The move marks a significant expansion for the electronics manufacturer, which currently sits in 70% of American households.
Sih Lee, head of North America Fintech Business at Samsung, confirmed that the collaboration is a long-term strategic play. While the initial focus remains on the credit card, both companies signaled potential for future product development. As tech firms and banks continue to converge, the alliance positions Samsung to capture a larger share of the digital wallet economy.
