Van Heyningen countered that instead of seeking access to the American market to sustain excess facilities, Canadian officials should focus on restructuring their own industry. The Coalition maintains that U.S. trade laws are essential for domestic growth, arguing that the current tariffs provide a necessary buffer against what it describes as unfair trade practices. By keeping these duties in place, the organization aims to ensure that domestic manufacturing continues to expand, prioritizing American-made materials for national housing needs.
