CEO Mohamed Shareef stated that the partnership serves as a cornerstone for the bank's digital strategy, enabling the institution to transition toward a more agile, future-ready framework. By integrating the Essence platform, the bank expects to streamline internal operations through straight-through processing while empowering relationship managers to deploy new services faster than current capabilities allow.
Siobhan Byron, EVP of Universal Banking at Finastra, noted that the selection underscores the platform’s capacity to handle complex, large-scale institutional needs. With more than 390,000 customers relying on its network of branches and digital channels, the Bank of Maldives intends to leverage this technology to maintain its market position as the country's largest financial institution. The migration focuses on increasing automation and improving customer service delivery, marking a shift toward the bank's long-term goal of digital-first operations.
