Hedgehog USA Secures Texas Power Deal for AI Data Center Expansion

Navarro County, Texas, is slated to become a major hub for AI and cloud computing infrastructure as Hedgehog USA secures a long-term energy supply agreement with Idemitsu. The partnership aims to deliver 600 megawatts of data center capacity by late 2027, prioritizing energy-ready sites for hyperscale users.

The agreement establishes a framework for Idemitsu to supply natural gas and power solutions to Hedgehog’s development campus. By securing infrastructure commitments before construction begins, the companies intend to bypass common bottlenecks in data center project timelines. This approach, centered on a Behind-the-Meter strategy, provides developers with direct control over power scale and operational costs. John Happ, Chief Commercial Officer at Idemitsu, noted that securing firm pipeline capacity is a critical requirement for creating truly shovel-ready land in a competitive market.

Hedgehog USA, based in Plano, focuses on delivering sites with pre-secured mineral and surface rights. Marathon Capital is serving as the exclusive financial advisor for the project, guiding the commercialization of the campus. Atul Anand, co-founder of Hedgehog, stated that the model reflects a shift toward securing energy certainty from the start of the development cycle to accommodate the massive power demands of modern AI compute.
