Lupin Spins Out Oncology Assets to New Venture Kaveri Therapeutics

Mumbai-based pharmaceutical giant Lupin has divested two key oncology programs to the newly formed U.S. clinical-stage firm Kaveri Therapeutics. By transferring the LNP7457 and LNP8701 assets into an independent entity, Lupin aims to accelerate global clinical development while retaining a significant equity stake in the startup.

The spin-out moves the PRMT5 inhibitor LNP7457 and the SOS1-targeted LNP8701 under the leadership of Kaveri CEO Kristi Jones and Chief Medical Officer Dr. Robert Pierce. Both programs previously garnered attention with positive data presentations at the American Society of Clinical Oncology meetings in 2025 and 2026. Under the terms of the deal, Lupin Inc. provides seed funding and exclusive rights, while Kaveri prepares to raise additional capital to fuel trials targeting solid tumors, including lung, pancreatic, and ovarian cancers.

Vinita Gupta, CEO of Lupin, stated that the move allows the company to leverage Kaveri’s specialized focus to advance targeted cancer therapies. Kaveri intends to utilize a biomarker-driven approach for its clinical development strategy, aiming to address hard-to-treat cancers where patient options remain limited.
