Whisker Labs Rebrands to Ting Labs to Align With Its Flagship Technology

More than one million homes now rely on the electrical fire prevention technology known as Ting, prompting its parent company to abandon the Whisker Labs moniker. By rebranding as Ting Labs, the Germantown-based firm seeks to unify its corporate identity with the product already recognized by insurers and homeowners nationwide.

For nearly a decade, the company has deployed sensor technology designed to detect electrical hazards before they ignite. This shift acknowledges that stakeholders—ranging from utility providers to emergency responders—consistently identify the firm by its primary product rather than its original corporate name. CEO Bob Marshall stated that the change reflects a decade of innovation and a growing ambition to integrate fire prevention as a standard home safety feature.

The transition follows a period of rapid expansion for the platform, which currently provides AI-driven intelligence for the electrical grid. Beyond its core fire prevention capabilities, the firm recently partnered with Nationwide to distribute 500,000 sensors and expanded its detection suite to include frozen pipe monitoring. To date, the technology has identified over 30,000 potential fire hazards, supported by a network of more than 40 insurance carriers that offer the service to policyholders at no additional cost.
