At San Diego State University, the firm is executing the Evolve Student Housing project. Designed in collaboration with Gensler, this multi-phase development stands as the largest student housing initiative in the university’s history, slated to provide 3,640 beds and a centralized community hub. This project reinforces a decade-long partnership aimed at expanding affordable on-campus living options.
Simultaneously, the University of San Diego is undergoing significant upgrades. Swinerton is constructing a 70,000-square-foot facility for the Shiley STEM Initiative, featuring a mass timber roof structure supplied by the affiliated firm Timberlab. Beyond new construction, the builder is undertaking interior renovations at Guadalupe Hall to enhance accessibility and integrate modern instructional technology. Meanwhile, at the University of California San Diego, Swinerton is focused on both operational capacity and sustainability. Work at the Muir College Dining Commons aims to accommodate increased student enrollment, while the new Marine Biotechnology Innovation Facility at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography serves as a showcase for mass timber construction techniques.
