The company’s performance highlights a resilient underwriting strategy, with a property and casualty combined ratio of 83.8%. While total net premiums written rose 3.6% to $14.7 billion, growth was uneven across regions; Overseas General insurance saw a notable 10.2% increase, whereas North America commercial premiums dipped 2.3% as the firm maintained discipline in large account and excess and surplus property lines.

Chairman and CEO Evan G. Greenberg emphasized that the company remains an "all-weather" operation, prioritizing underwriting profit over aggressive expansion in softening markets. While catastrophe losses totaled $475 million—down from $630 million in the prior year—the company continues to leverage its global diversification to offset regional volatility. Shareholders saw significant capital returns, with $1.37 billion distributed through share repurchases and dividends during the quarter.
