Lucy Rigby returns to key Treasury post as City Minister

Prime Minister Andy Burnham has appointed Lucy Rigby as Britain’s City Minister, tasking the lawmaker with the primary responsibility for the nation’s vast financial services sector. Rigby, who previously held the role under Keir Starmer, steps back into a position that serves as the government's bridge to the City of London.

Rigby will oversee the regulatory landscape for banks, insurers, asset managers, and the growing fintech industry. Her appointment, confirmed Tuesday, marks a return to a portfolio she managed from September of last year until May, when she transitioned to the role of Chief Secretary to the Treasury. Operating from within the Treasury, she will simultaneously serve as Economic Secretary, ensuring continuity in the government’s engagement with major financial institutions.
