CAE and Leonardo Scale Up M-346 Pilot Training Tech

As demand shifts toward autonomous and digital air combat environments, CAE and Leonardo are deepening their collaboration to modernize the M-346 fighter-pilot training system. The partners announced a shared technology roadmap on Wednesday, focused on integrating advanced capabilities into the aircraft's next-generation training infrastructure.

CAE and Leonardo Scale Up M-346 Pilot Training Tech

The expansion centers on the M-346 Integrated Training System, with specific emphasis on the upcoming Block 20 capabilities. By aligning their technical resources, the firms aim to accelerate pilot readiness for air forces navigating the transition to complex, AI-enabled mission systems.

This agreement deepens an existing industrial relationship, most notably at the International Flight Training School in Sardinia. At that facility, the companies currently employ a hybrid approach that blends live flight hours with high-fidelity simulations. The updated framework seeks to improve interoperability between these training environments, ensuring that student pilots are prepared for the increasing demands of modern, highly digitalized fighter aircraft.
