Henry Boot Shares Slump to Decade Low on Profit Warning

Shares in property developer Henry Boot plummeted to their lowest level in over a decade after the firm warned it would miss full-year profit targets. The London-listed company cited a sharp drop in land transactions and broader economic instability as the primary drivers behind the significant downward revision.

Henry Boot Shares Slump to Decade Low on Profit Warning

The stock dropped 8 pence, or 4.8%, to 158 pence in early afternoon trading, marking a valuation depth not seen since December 2015. Year-to-date, the company has shed 30% of its market value. The contraction is tied directly to the performance of Hallam Land, which saw its plot sales crater to 556 units in the first half of the year, down from 1,222 during the same period in 2024.

Management attributes the slowdown to domestic political uncertainty and geopolitical tensions in the Middle East, which have stifled both consumer and business confidence. While the firm expects a modest recovery in the second half, it anticipates full-year pretax profit to fall significantly below the current 20.4 million pound consensus. Berenberg analyst Tom Musson projects 2026 profit could settle near 10 million pounds before a potential rebound next year. Despite the current distress, the company maintains its focus on cash generation and long-term asset pipelines, holding firm on a net debt position of 132.9 million pounds as of June 30.
