Shoppable Brings Universal Checkout to ChatGPT

Shoppable has integrated its multi-retailer commerce infrastructure into the ChatGPT Plugin Directory, granting 900 million weekly active users the ability to discover products and build unified carts directly within AI conversations. The launch marks a pivot for the firm, which has spent 15 years developing patented universal checkout technology.

Starting today, users in the United States can access a catalog of 500 million products by invoking the @Shoppable plugin within a ChatGPT session. The integration allows the AI to parse complex requests—such as curating a multi-brand beauty routine or sourcing birthday gifts—and aggregate items from different retailers into a single checkout flow. By redirecting users to the Shoppable platform to finalize transactions, the tool effectively bridges conversational AI with fragmented e-commerce inventory.

Founder and CEO Heather Udo frames the move as the next logical step in retail evolution, comparing the transition to agentic commerce to the earlier migration from physical catalogs to websites. The company, which holds four U.S. patents for its checkout architecture, previously introduced a Model Context Protocol server to standardize AI connectivity. For brands, the plugin provides a consolidated backend for transaction handling and product discovery, ensuring that merchants can participate in AI-driven shopping experiences without managing individual retail integrations.
