NanoSomiX and Beckman Coulter Partner on Brain Biomarker Diagnostics

By isolating brain-derived extracellular vesicles from a standard blood draw, California-based NanoSomiX aims to bridge the gap between complex neurological research and clinical diagnostics. The biotech firm has entered a collaboration with Beckman Coulter Diagnostics to automate the detection of biomarkers previously hidden in the bloodstream.

The partnership focuses on scaling NanoSomiX's proprietary platform, which identifies signals from specific brain cell populations, including neurons and glial cells. Detecting these low-abundance markers has historically proven difficult, yet they remain critical for tracking disease progression and therapeutic response in neurodegenerative conditions. Dr. Dennis Van Epps, VP of Scientific Affairs at NanoSomiX, noted that the collaboration seeks to transform these specialized assays into automated solutions capable of handling high-throughput clinical demands.

NanoSomiX brings an established foundation of peer-reviewed research to the table, with existing work covering a spectrum of neurodegenerative diseases and brain injuries. By integrating this technology into Beckman Coulter’s diagnostic infrastructure, the companies plan to move beyond experimental research toward scalable testing. This transition is essential for validating biomarkers across diverse neurological conditions, ranging from astrocyte-related pathologies to oligodendrocyte damage.
