Gold Rebounds Past $4,120 as Markets Weigh Geopolitical Risks

Spot gold prices climbed to $4,125.10 an ounce early Wednesday, signaling a sustained recovery as investors parse a complex landscape of cooling U.S. inflation data, rising energy costs, and persistent shipping volatility in the Strait of Hormuz and the Red Sea.

Gold Rebounds Past $4,120 as Markets Weigh Geopolitical Risks

The precious metal’s latest rally pushes it firmly above the $4,100 threshold, testing resistance levels near $4,140. This upward momentum follows a string of U.S. economic reports, including softer CPI and PPI figures, which have tempered expectations for an immediate Federal Reserve rate hike while leaving the door open for sustained high-interest policies. Silver mirrored this strength, rising 1.32% to $59.44 and holding above its 100-period moving average.

Market participants are currently balancing defensive gold buying against the inflationary pressure of elevated energy prices. Brent crude remains above $94 a barrel, fueled by ongoing stresses in critical maritime transit corridors. While geopolitical friction typically bolsters gold as a safe-haven asset, higher oil prices simultaneously complicate the inflation outlook, keeping yields on the 10-year Treasury note near 4.6% and capping the metal's potential gains.

Technically, gold bulls have regained control by clearing key moving averages, with eyes now set on the $4,200 objective. A failure to maintain support at $4,080, however, could invite a retest of the $4,040 breakout zone. Traders remain focused on upcoming central bank communications and flash PMI data to gauge whether this rebound can withstand the current interest rate environment.
