Brent Crude Nears $95 as Geopolitical Tensions Strain Global Supply

Oil futures surged on Wednesday, climbing past $95 a barrel as escalating conflicts in the Middle East and Ukraine tighten energy supplies. The sharp rebound, which marks a $20 increase since early July, is already driving pump prices above $4 a gallon and rekindling fears of persistent inflation across the economy.

These energy market pressures are casting a shadow over equity trading. The Nasdaq composite retreated early Wednesday, cooling off after a brief rally in chip stocks. Investors are now shifting their attention to upcoming earnings reports from Alphabet, Tesla, and IBM, which are expected to provide a clearer picture of corporate resilience in a volatile climate.

Simultaneously, the bond market is reflecting heightened anxiety regarding monetary policy. Yields on ten-year Treasurys are testing 4.65%, while market participants adjust their expectations for the Federal Reserve. The probability of an interest rate hike at next week’s meeting has risen to nearly 25%, a notable increase from the 16% estimate recorded at the start of the week.
