Scotiabank Forecasts C$82 Million Gain From KeyCorp Stake

Bank of Nova Scotia anticipates an 82 million Canadian dollar boost to its fiscal third-quarter net income stemming from its strategic investment in KeyCorp. This figure accounts for associated funding costs and reflects the bank's reporting practice of utilizing a one-month lag for the regional lender's performance data.

Scotiabank Forecasts C$82 Million Gain From KeyCorp Stake

When adjusting for the amortization of acquired intangible assets valued at approximately C$8 million, the bank expects the contribution to reach roughly C$90 million. This financial milestone follows the 2024 finalization of a $2.8 billion deal, which secured Scotiabank a nearly 15% stake in the U.S. regional lender. The acquisition represents a deliberate push by the Canadian firm to broaden its footprint and gain direct exposure to the American retail banking sector.
