U.S. Natural Gas Stocks Poised for Mid-July Growth

Summer heat is driving a surge in electricity demand for air conditioning, yet U.S. natural gas storage facilities are expected to show a net injection of 34 billion cubic feet for the week ending July 17. This moderate build reflects the ongoing tug-of-war between power generation needs and supply availability.

U.S. Natural Gas Stocks Poised for Mid-July Growth

Market expectations, derived from a survey of 11 analysts and traders, suggest a build ranging from 20 to 48 billion cubic feet. While this projected increase falls short of the previous week’s 41 billion cubic feet, it remains above the five-year seasonal average of 30 billion cubic feet. Should these estimates hold, total gas in storage will reach 3,058 billion cubic feet.

This volume puts current inventories 185 billion cubic feet above the 2021-2025 seasonal average, widening the surplus from the 181 billion cubic feet recorded one week prior. The U.S. Energy Information Administration will provide the definitive figures on Thursday at 10:30 a.m. EDT.
